How long does the online divorce process take?
Most users complete our questionnaire in about 1-2 hours. After that, your divorce timeline depends on your state's waiting period and court processing times, which can range from 30 days to several months.
The timeline typically includes:
- Completing the online questionnaire: 1-2 hours
- Document preparation: 1-2 business days
- Filing with the court: 1-3 days (depending on your location)
- Waiting period: Varies by state (from 0 to 90+ days)
- Final decree: Typically 1-30 days after waiting period
Do I need to appear in court?
In many states, you can complete an uncontested divorce without a court appearance. However, some states do require a brief hearing.
States that typically don't require court appearances for uncontested divorces include:
- California
- Florida
- Nevada
- New York (in some cases)
- Texas
We provide specific instructions for your state's requirements in our state-specific guides.
What if my spouse won't cooperate?
Our service is designed for uncontested divorces where both spouses agree on major issues. If your spouse is uncooperative, you may need to consult with an attorney for a contested divorce.
Some options if your spouse is uncooperative:
- Consider mediation services to help reach an agreement
- Consult with an attorney from our legal network
- Proceed with a contested divorce (requires legal representation)
Are your forms guaranteed to be accepted by the court?
Yes, we guarantee our forms will be accepted by your local court. If they are rejected due to an error in our forms, we'll refund your purchase price.
Our guarantee includes:
- Court-approved forms specific to your jurisdiction
- Properly formatted documents that meet local requirements
- Complete set of forms needed for your specific situation
- Clear filing instructions for your local court
Note: This guarantee applies to form acceptance only, not to the outcome of your divorce case.
